Hand-tufted rug, hand-knotted rug: what is the difference?
A hand-knotted rug is made knot by knot on a vertical loom. It is the oldest technique, that of the great Persian, Afghan and Moroccan rugs. A quality knotted rug can contain several million knots and require several months of work.
The hand-tufted rug uses a different technique: tufts of wool are inserted into a canvas with a hand-held gun, then secured at the back with a layer of latex and a cotton backing. The result is a rug with a dense, soft pile, excellent durability and a surface particularly well suited to precise graphic patterns, sculpted relief effects, and interplays of material between wool and plant-based silk or Tencel.
Both techniques produce high-quality handmade rugs. The difference is above all aesthetic and creative: the hand-knotted rug belongs to an ancient ornamental tradition, while the hand-tufted rug is the territory of contemporary design.

Carving, also called chiseling, consists of sculpting the surface of the rug after tufting to create differences in pile height. How do you care for a hand-tufted wool rug?
A quality hand-tufted wool rug is designed to last. A few simple rules help preserve its appearance over the long term.
Vacuum your rug once or twice a week with a smooth nozzle, without a rotating brush. A rotating brush damages the fibers and can distort the relief. If there is a stain, blot it with a damp cloth without rubbing. Avoid harsh chemicals. Professional cleaning is recommended every three to four years.
Avoid exposing your wool rug to direct, prolonged light, which can alter the dyes over time.
